Cleopatra Barbie (not to be confused with Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra doll) is a Gold Label collector Barbie designed by Linda Kyaw and released in 2010 as the first, and ultimately the only, entry into the Egyptian Royalty series.
Description[]
The doll isn't exactly historically accurate but more of a fantasy representation of Egyptian Royalty. She comes dressed in a cape and skirt with a pronounced green and black colors. Her robes feature a gold embellishment, and her headdress has a scarab and cobra motif to it. She wears faux gold jewelry and carries a golden dagger. A scepter is held in her right hand.
The doll was marketed to adult collectors, and is therefore a display piece only and not meant to be played with as a toy.
Trivia[]
- The doll, contrary to popular belief, is not a member of the Greek Goddess Series. The misconception comes from the fact that the Barbie Catalog that promoted the doll incorrectly advertised her as the 4th entry into the series. Though Cleopatra in real life was of Greek descent, she herself was a real historical figure and not a Greek Goddess.
- The doll was supposed to be the premiere doll of the Egyptian Royalty series, which never took off or even continued. She was to be followed by a King Tutankhamen Ken doll designed by Linda Kyaw, but the doll never made it past the drawing board, leaving Cleopatra the only entry into the collection.
