Cara (not to be confused with the So In Style character Kara) was Barbie's second African American friend. Her appearance in toy stores coincided with Christie, who was available in Malibu editions during the period, although the two dolls never appeared in the same line.
Cara debuted in 1975 as "Free Moving" Cara and "Quick Curl" Cara, and had two more editions in 1976, "Ballerina" Cara and "Deluxe Quick Curl" Cara. Cara used the Steffie head mold.
Her boyfriend was "Free Moving" Curtis. Cara and Curtis were great friends of Barbie and Ken because they appeared in multiple comic books and a set of paper dolls with them at the time.
